The four largest hyperscalers guided to $720–745bn of capital expenditure in 2026 src, up from roughly $220bn in 2024. The IEA estimates global investment in data centres reached about $0.5 trillion in 2024 src.

What does it buy?

Mostly GPUs and other AI accelerators, the buildings to house them, and increasingly the power supply itself, including long-term clean power contracts and on-site generation.
